Anna Fikus-Wójcik
For over a dozen years, I have been professionally and privately associated with the Tri-City. I come from Poznań, but I finished my studies in architecture and urban planning in Kraków. I defended my PhD in science at the Faculty of Architecture in Poznań. Every day I work as an architect and urban planner, solving the problems of urban development. I have been associated with painting since childhood. In the creative process, I appreciate painting “here and now” – outdoors. This allows me a fuller sense of the atmosphere of the place and a direct transfer of these impressions to paper. Hence my preferred watercolor technique, which requires quick decisions, courage and hates corrections. For 5 years I have been associated with the “Architekci Paint” group and the ArchArt foundation, with which I participate every year in open-air workshops and post-open-air exhibitions. For three years I have also been dealing with children’s illustration and I have prepared illustrations and graphic composition of 2 therapeutic books addressed to children with diabetes T1 (Mały Diabetyk publishing house).
Since in my professional life I am focused on the city and its problems, for the sake of balance in painting I choose topics most often related to the natural landscape. An exception is the series of works “Port Stories” concerning the port, shipbuilding and maritime landscape typical of the Tri-City. A large part of the works from the “Port Stories” series and landscapes are in the collections of private persons.
